Where to use Soundscreen Insulation?
There are two types of internal acoustics. Sound transmission and sound reverberation. Sound transmission occurs when noise passes through objects such as walls or doors. Reverberation refers to when sound bounces off surfaces. Soundscreen insulation helps reduce the noise level of sound passing through walls into adjacent rooms. Most walls are hollow, with two bits of plasterboard with a timber frame in some parts to maintain stability. By filling this hollow space with SoundScreen insulation, the acoustics of the room will be dramatically improved. Properly insulated walls will reduce sound by 6 dB more than uninsulated walls, reducing sound volume by up to 75%
Sound screen insulation is currently a greatly overlooked feature in the design of many homes. This is largely due to the lack of building code requirements. However, soundproofing your home can be a massive benefit to your lifestyle. That is where soundscreen insulation comes in. Modern homes have many areas that generate noise. These could include entertaining areas, instruments, TV’s, game consoles, kitchens, laundries and more. Therefore, it is becoming more important to ensure that you can concentrate when working from home without noise interruption from other parts of the house.
Soundscreen Internal Acoustics:
There are two types of internal acoustics. Sound transmission and sound reverberation. Sound transmission occurs when noise passes through objects such as walls or doors. Reverberation refers to when sound bounces off surfaces. Soundscreen insulation helps reduce the noise level of sound passing through walls into adjacent rooms. When to use Soundscreen:
It can be difficult to concentrate on work, study or focus on anything that requires peace and quiet, such as reading or sleeping, with stressful noise in the background. Common noisy areas of the house include entertainment or gaming areas, kitchens, and laundries. Soundscreen insulation is suitable for internal walls and mid-floors within the house to develop quieter spaces. Generally, you would install soundscreen within walls or mid-floors that separate quiet areas such as bedrooms or home offices, from other bedrooms, or noisy areas such as shared spaces. For example, if you have a bathroom next to a bedroom, it will reduce the noise from showers or hair dryers and help improve sleeping conditions. Reducing noise can be a great way of improving health and mental wellbeing, by reducing stress.
Soundscreen can also be a fantastic way of reducing noise in garages, workshops/ workspaces, or sheds where loud noise may be present – if a member in your household is practising a loud instrument for a band or is working with power tools.
Soundscreen in High Density Development:
If you are building a semi-detached house or any development with walls that separate two different households, having sound screen insulation between the parting walls is essential. This will dramatically increase resident privacy so that you won’t have to worry about noise complaints or sound bleeding between residences. This will also provide occupants of the semi-detached dwellings peace of mind that any discussions or noise that occur in their dwelling will be private to their neighbours unless exceptionally noisy.
Installation of Soundscreen Insulation:
Due to the positioning of soundscreen within the walls of the property, it can only really be easily installed during the construction process or major home alterations. To find out whether any developments you are building can have soundscreen installed, you should liaise with your builder well before the construction process has begun.
Soundscreen as Thermal Insulation:
Like other insulation products, SoundScreen is also useful for thermal insulation and is available at a variety of R-values. All new building developments within Australia will have R-value requirements based on the climate zone of the property. These are usually for the external facing walls and roofing of the property. For internal walls, speak to your builder or insulation installer about the appropriate R-value requirements for any SoundScreen you plan on installing.
